The most important celebration in a Slavic home is the marriage ceremony, which is frequently celebrated in flower, summer or autumn. It was a time for celebration and happiness, as it marked the beginning of the new living. Soldiers married after successful efforts, sailors held their ceremonies after a good catch and shepherds tied the knot after the calving year

Before the wedding ceremony, the bride is usually given a rushnyk ( a flower with a bridge). Her relatives manifest her with bread and salt and request for their grace. They also give the couple ektenias ( a ring ) that symbolizes a slavic marriage and a promise of faithfulness and fidelity. The bride wears a veil, which she never takes off, except to go to the bath. It was considered a bad sign to take off the mask during the ceremony, and in old times it was typical to punish a newlywed who did so.

After the meeting the brides walk through the streets of the community, with folks throwing seedlings of corn, chocolates and currencies for happiness and prosperity. They even stop at native shrines and give gift. The wedding ceremony is supervised by a master of ceremonies called a” Tamada”. He is a raucous pal who runs the numerous tournaments.

When the bride leaves her parents ‘ house, she takes with her a shawl that she should retain, not to give away or permit somebody touch. The couple’s family tested the bride by asking her questions and requesting water from her. If they placed cash on a tray, the bride had give them waters or answers their queries.
